THE POSITION
The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution at Somerset is seeking a highly motivated Educational Guidance Counselor, Corrections Education to join the Education Department.
? Work schedule to be determined
? 37.5 hour work week
? This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As an Education Guidance Counselor, Corrections Education this position will provide individual and group counseling and guidance to incarcerated adults on enrolling in ABE/GED classes and selecting and enrolling in vocational classes based on academic level, interests, and availability of courses. Serves as an Alternate GED examiner.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Qualifications:

+ Minimum Experience and Training Requirements - Two years of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling, and a bachelor's degree in the social sciences, behavioral sciences, education, social work, or counseling; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training, which includes one year of experience in educational guidance and educational counseling
+ Special Requirement - Employees assigned to Commonwealth Secondary Diploma facility must possess a valid and active Educational Specialist 1 or Educational Specialist 2 certification in the field of elementary or secondary school guidance or school counseling issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. When no candidates possess the named certifications, the candidate must be eligible for an Emergency Permit issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education that is appropriate to the position.
+ Special Requirement - An employee assigned to a Commonwealth Secondary Diploma facility who was hired based on eligibility for an Emergency Permit must obtain a valid and active Educational Specialist 1 or Educational Specialist 2 certification in the field of elementary or secondary school guidance or school counseling issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
